Bridging the Horizons

What exactly is Paul striving for when he urges his Philippian converts to be of one mind, or have the same mindset? We might think, if we were not reading this exhortation in context, that this is an appeal to orthodoxy, to sharing the same beliefs, but in fact that is not the focus of what is being said here. The example cited of Christ shows that Paul is talking about a mindset that leads to self-sacrificial patterns of behavior that promote unity in the body and "living a life worthy of the gospel."
